even with those four numbers there are countless possible combinations good luck with figuring out which one is the right one you punk
*straightens calculator*
It’s pretty likely that it’s a four digit number, and as there are four digits chosen there, that means that there cannot be any repetition. This mean that there are:
n!/(n-4)! possible orders. As ‘n’ is 4 (number of digits available). 4!/0! which becomes 4x3x2x1/1 which simplifies to 24. That means that there are 24 possible combinations of codes. This would take you about two or three minutes to input all possible codes.
Unless an alarm goes off if you don’t get it right in 3 tries
*straightens calculator again*
Kick the fucking door in
well ‘technically’ the code is most likley 1970. statistically, a majority of people, when told to choose a 4 digit code will choose their birth year. and this key pad is obviously a few years old to put it nicely, thats most likley it.
some sherlock holmes shit just went down over here
No, no, no. Don’t base your deductions of psychology. Let’s talk chemistry. When you first press a button, there’s more of the natural oils on your skin, and therefore it wears down the numbers on the keys faster. Obviously 0 is the first one, then. Try 0791 first.
Sherlock out.
woah.
it got better
and this is why the sherlock fandom could either rule the world or end it….
Close, but not quite, I think. People will almost always choose a number they can remember. What’s memorable about 0791? Try 0719 - a birthday, 19th of July. That is more likely.
Those deductions are great and all, but unnecessary.
The light is green.
The door is already open.
And that’s why we have a John Watson.
This is “top 10 favorite posts” level.
Omg, it’s actually on my dash! This post is like a fossil!
Idk if I’ve rebloged this before, but I’ll reblog this legend again
Smithsonian? I’ve found the quintessential Tumblr and Sherlock fandom post. Yes. I would consider it definitive.
Ahh it’s back.
“And that’s why we have a John Watson”, indeed 😂
Legend of a post. 10/10 recommend reblogging.
this post is on my dash I feel HONORED
THE POST OF LEGENDS HAS RESURFACED ON MY DASH
I’VE ONLY EVER SEEN THIS IN SCREENSHOTS OMG
On your dash? I dig for gold like this,,, by looking at my mutual pages.
I’ve only seen this on Pinterest!
*gasp* THE SACRED TEXTS!
:O
THIS IS A LEGENDARY POST I HAVE BEEN GRACED BY IT’S APPEARANCE!!!
Why did Tumblr stop doing stuff like this, it’s genuinely fascinating, and cute that we include our favorite media in things we do
Well. Since you asked. I was on tumblr as this post was being built in 2013. The height of superwholock. Which has, since then, been declared peak cringe. So people picked new fandoms to openly love in earnest. Which were also eventually declared cringe. Eventually the youth decided to cut out the middleman, and declared loving anything in earnest to be fully cringe. So it has been a really long time since the day to day users of tumblr have let any fandom create anything nearing the cultural phenomenon that was superwholock. And it is exactly those cultural phenomena that are needed to create posts like this.
So. What happened? Cringe culture happened.
Try and imagine what would happen if this post wasn’t the “sacred texts” only ever seen in screen shots and in pinterest. Try and imagine any current pop culture detective media fandom creating this post today. They’d be slaughtered for being cringe by the time (in this case) Sherlock was mentined.
But because this post is 10 years old and completely broke containment, it’s celebrated when it graces our dashes.
The cool thing to know about cringe is it need only bother the fools who say something’s cringe. LOVE YER FANDOM OUT LOUD.
Also for those scratching their heads, superwholock = Supernatural, Doctor Who, Sherlock.
And verily I say until you, those three were on absolute fire together a decade ago. Oooo, I miss the burning.

I need UK journalists to not show 43 degrees is not beach weather like people are gonna die
Americans do not interact
Im Australian, and 43C is NOT beach weather. That is VERY hot, even for us, but for the UK its apocalyptic. At 43C you should not even be going outside if you can help it, treating it like beach weather is a one way ticket to heatstroke.
I agree with not going outside for long periods of time but you will have to plan something to reduce the heat within your households. Especially if your house is designed to retain heat
Fans pointed at open windows will pull out hot air and allow it to circulate - don’t put them IN the window, leave some room by the side for extra air to get drawn in.
If you can’t afford cold packs (and if you can, stock up on some NOW), get some ziplock bags and freeze them, with wet washcloths or ripped up towel inside. You want them to be ready in the freezer when you need them. Wrap them in a tea towel and put them on your wrists and ankles.
A big bowl of ice water in front of a fan will blow cold air into the room and make a massive difference. Again, if you don’t have ice cube trays get some and freeze them *now*, don’t wait until you’re already in trouble (although I am melting at quarter past nine but my thermoregulation is bollocks so I don’t know if that’s the heat or just the me). If you can’t afford to get any, clean out empty yoghurt pots or Tupperware or whatever you have that can hold water. Even if you end up with a giant ice cube from a lunchbox, it’ll help.
Even just opening two windows at a crack will allow some air circulation - I sometimes prop open my bedroom door and leave the bathroom door open, both windows are locked at a crack because of the cats but it creates a nice little line of wind along the landing.
If you’re someone who needs something on them to sleep, take your duvet out of the cover and just use the cover.
Remember that water acts as a lens - you do NOT want to wear a wet t shirt in the burning sun. I did this when I was 8 and if I tan on my back you can still see the scars.
Read the instructions for sunscreen carefully, and use the highest spf you can find. Reapply as per the instructions. If you get burned, Malibu do an amazing aloe-based spray on after sun, I got mine from Savers for 3 quid and it lasts ages. I keep it and any other after sun in the fridge, which means it’s incredibly lovely to put on. Aloe is magic for burns so definitely gravitate towards that if you can. My son got badly burned (he’s ginger, he went to an outdoor pool and they forgot to give him sunscreen) and he’s had 2 helpings of it and you wouldn’t believe how much better he is (he couldn’t even really wear a shirt).
Make sure your pets have plenty of fresh cold water to drink, and if they usually have dry food consider giving them some wet food for one of their meals (cats are notoriously not always great drinkers but wet food will get them some liquid). Keep the curtains and/or blinds closed in south-facing rooms. I have blackout curtains in the front room and the front bedroom (my son’s) and they make a MASSIVE difference to the heat. Make sure pets have access to these cooler spaces if you can create them.
Keep oven/hob use to a minimum if you can. I like making a massive pot of something that can be reheated in the microwave if necessary - the oven especially adds a lot of heat. Or get some wraps and ham and cheese and eat those.
Cordial or fruit juice can be better than water if you’re sweating a lot. Cordial is cheap as chips. Salty snacks are also good.
Go to Iceland and buy a billion lolly ices. It’s especially a good way to make sure kids stay hydrated.
I realize op asked for Americans not to interact, and whether or not they’re being cheeky, I feel obligated to reblog this to save lives.
That temperature is absolutely murder, even moreso with humidity.
Please, be safe and stay hydrated!
For reference, 43 degrees celsius is roughly equivalent to 109.4 degrees fahrenheit. That’s bad.
Yeah that’s not Beach Weather in Southern California either. I can’t even imagine something like that in the UK
Okay I was simply scrolling because Sri Lanka is fucking trending but as usual international media is exoticizing our struggles and focusing on the “people swimming in the president’s pool” instead of informing the world about why an entire fucking country (amidst an economic collapse) stormed to Colombo and asked the president to step down.
First things first. Know the context.
There is an economic crisis going on in Sri Lanka. We have declared bankruptcy.
I’ve already made a post about what this means for the country. This means high inflation. No electricity. Princes are sky rocketing.
No fuel. I repeat. No fuel. People are fucking dying in queues.
But even without fuel, people came to Colombo. People fucking walked to Colombo for miles and miles to join the protest.
There were attempts to stop the protest. We have the right for assembly. We have the right to freedom of expression. But no. The government stopped fuel dispense (as if we had fuel lol) to stop people. They imposed an unconstitutional “police curfew” to stop the protest. Why is no one talking about this shit??
But people still came. I don’t see the international media reporting about the effort and energy and passion that went into this.
We built a city. Do you fucking know that? We built a city called “GotaGoGama (loosely translates to: Gota-Go-Home-Ville). We built a city months ago since the country collapsed.
Recap of May 09th when GotaGoGama was attacked by Mahinda Rajapaksha (then PM) and his goons.
I repeat. The protest on 09th July is not the first.
We’ve been asked the president to step down so more competent people can take over and do something to help us. This protest yesterday was not new. It’s not random. It’s an act of people giving up. The storming of the presidential palace is not anger. It’s taking back of power.
As for the swimming pools? And People making fun of the protestors for working out in the president’s gym, eating the food in his kitchen and swimming in his pool?
What about this?
For people making fun of the youth who are taking a dip at the swimming pool or playing the piano at the president’s house…For those are the condemning the protestors who set the PM’s house on fire (we still have no visual proof this happened) - all I have to say is this:
THIS -
These leaders we asked to step down today (who still haven’t btw. No. Not yet. Nothing official yet), they are corrupt beyond compare. The president had “said” he “will” step down not he 13th. But we don’t know anything yet.
These are people who not only brought the country to economic collapse. But the Rajapaskhas are responsible for millions of lives that were lost during the civil war. These are people who have taken from my country until there is nothing more for us to give.
I’m really grateful that you are all finally “talking about us”. I’m glad the international media and the whole world is finally watching. But your view is narrow. Your sight is short sighted.
International media. People of the world.
Do better.
Do fucking better.
Because we, Sri Lankans, are doing our fucking best right now.
That makes NO sense… if comparing the life of Child being Sacrificed and killed to rape… Then still makes NO sense.
Less than 0.5 % (½ - one half of a percent) are aborted due to rape.
First of all, I’d *love* a source for that number. Mostly, I’m just curious how it was determined. Was that self-reported, or based on police reports, or based on rape convictions? Because it raises a really interesting question when people talk about exceptions for rape in abortion laws- how do you qualify?
Secondly, I love when people think that a low percentage means a small number. 0.5% means 1 out of every 200. The CDC reported 629,898 abortions in the US last year. That means, at 0.5%- 3,150 of those were because of rape. Which, ya know, feels like a lot of people to write off. And I’m willing to bet that’s a low ball number.
But really most importantly, the point here isn’t about the frequency at all, or whether abortion is similar to rape. It’s pointing out that these kinds of incredibly harsh punishments for inducing abortion have essentially made *being* a person who is capable of getting pregnant, more legally risky than *sexually assaulting someone.* That if you are sexually assaulted and then induce a miscarriage, you face more prison time than the person who raped you in the first place. Which, yes, does absolutely make this an attack on the dignity of women and anyone who can get pregnant.
Rapists get to choose the mother of their children now, and over 30 states still allow for parental rights *even when there are sexual assault allegations.* Parental rights means that person can stop an adoption from happening, can gain visitation and custody rights, can legally mandate continued contact with their victim.
On top of all this, at the moment, the #1 cause of maternal death in the US is homicide, most often by an intimate partner. If you’re already in a domestic or sexual abuse situation, a pregnancy can increase the risk that the violence will escalate. And now, with abortion clinics shuttering in red states, your choices are to *hope* that violence doesn’t become deadly, knowing that you will likely be unable to ever actually escape that person if you carry the pregnancy to term because of their parental rights, or face potentially up to life in prison if you take steps to induce a miscarriage.
And that’s not even getting into *natural* miscarriages (1 in 8 pregnancies that are detected) , and how these laws will subject anyone who faces pregnancy complications to murder charges.
Abortion is a really thorny issue, I know. And if all you consider is the life of the fetus, its really easy to demonize everyone else and ignore all the factors that go into this. Pregnancy is complicated, fragile, and potentially deadly. A wanted and loved pregnancy can fail through no one’s fault. There are a lot of reasons why people WANT to get pregnant, and a LOT of reasons why people don’t.
And at the end of the day, it isn’t your business. It’s not Joe Biden and Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz’s business. People deserve the dignity and respect to make these intimate decisions on their own terms. How can we be full and equal citizens when we aren’t even given that?
